“I’m The Problem,” a song by Morgan Wallen explores his tendency towards self-destruction. The single was released on January 31, 2025, in anticipation of his new album coming out soon. While Morgan Wallen has only released one single so far, fans are still buzzing over the song and excited for the upcoming album. This is only the start of what is to come; Wallen even announced an “I’m The Problem” tour to go along with the album.
Morgan Wallen is a 31-year-old country singer who came into the public eye in 2014 on Season 6 of “The Voice,” where he made it to the top 20. He is most known for his best-selling album “One Thing at a Time,” which sold 5.362 million units in 2023 including sales and streaming.
This song seems to reflect on Wallen’s contentious public persona. In 2020, 2021, and 2024, Wallen was caught up in many controversies, but he has taken time to reflect on his image. In May 2020, he was arrested outside of Kid Rock’s bar in downtown Nashville for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Wallen apologized and was suspended from a performance on Saturday Night Live.
Almost a year later in 2021, TMZ released a video recording of Wallen using a racial slur. After this incident, he was temporarily suspended from his record label, and his music was removed from several major radio stations in the United States.
After two years of silence, in 2024 he was seen throwing a chair off of a rooftop bar, and was sentenced to two years of probation. During this, he continued his “One Thing at a Time” tour in 2024 and later released singles like “Lies Lies Lies,” “Love Somebody,” and “Smile,” which were all loved by fans. He again apologized for his actions and said it would never happen again, promising to work on becoming sober.
His new single still talks about alcohol, and fans think it could be a reflection of his drinking problems. The lyrics read, “If it's the whiskey, then why do you keep on pullin’ it off the shelf?” It seems that he is blaming his partner for encouraging his alcohol abuse. Personally, I wasn’t sure how to feel about this.
Even though some of the lyrics were very personal to him, fans went crazy over Morgan Wallen’s release of his single “I’m The Problem,” thrilled that the song provided a small clue to the concept of the album and the tour, which he also announced on January 24, 2025.
When I first listened to this song, I tried to pay attention to the deeper meaning behind the lyrics because I felt it had a lot of meaning to each of every word. I do this when I listen to his music, discovering the deeper connections to my own life. His more recent songs are more relevant to the human experience, and this song is no exception.
In the song it says, “And it got me thinkin’, if I’m the problem, well, you might be the reason.” This song analyzes the deeper meaning of the relationship he had with a significant other and how they blamed each other for the wrongdoings in the relationship. In my opinion, this detail makes his music relatable to any age group of people.
Along with waiting for the album, fans were able to wait in a pre-sale line to see him during his tour. Wallen’s tour will kick off on June 20th at NRG Stadium in Houston Texas. He will also have special guests similar to his last tour, but they are different this time around.
In addition to Wallen, the tour will feature Brooks and Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Koe Wetzel, Gavin Adcock, Corey Kent, Ella Langley, and Anne Wilson. With this many singers joining him, the tour is very big, and very exciting; hopefully, fans see more tour dates added soon, so more of us can enjoy his music.
