“Brooke and Jubal in the Morning” was a radio show starring Jubal Fresh and Brooke Fox that first aired in 2011. Together, Brooke and Jubal created a successful morning radio show under “Premier Networks,” a subsidiary of iHeartMedia— one of the largest radio networks in the U.S. However, in 2020, the show disbanded due to creative differences between the two, and Jubal announced his desire to pursue other opportunities to focus on his comedy career and other personal projects. Recently, the show has resurfaced and caught the attention of audiences on Tik Tok.
Due to the show’s recent spike on TikTok, the internet has revisited “Brooke and Jubal in the Morning,” digging up reasons as to why Jubal really left the show. Jubal allegedly stated in an Instagram post that he left the show because Brooke said she hit her husband, and he didn’t morally agree with that. He later deleted the post, reclaiming his reasoning to “creative differences.” There doesn’t seem to be any solid evidence as to why he left.
Despite the end of their collaboration, both Brooke and Jubal have continued to find success in their respective careers. Jubal continued to create “The Jubal Show,” while Brooke started “Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning”— an identical radio show to the former “Brooke and Jubal in the Morning”, but featuring associate producer Jeffrey Dubow as the co-host. Despite both partners’ attempts to start a new “hit,” reviews are significantly lower on these new shows, disappointing longtime fans, yet again.
In the original “Brooke and Jubal in the Morning,” the show ranged from prank calls to awkward phone calls, but the highlight of the show was the “Second Date Update.” Fans especially enjoyed this segment as it let the viewers get involved in other people’s relationships, leading to humorous results from the participants.
In recent months through TikTok, “Brooke and Jubal in the Morning” has made a resurgence in the online world. The platform’s easy-to-consume content format allows the radio show to be easily viewed and spread, garnering millions of views. Two popular segments of the show are “The Second Date Update” and “Awkward Tuesday Phone Call.” (From my own experience, my whole feed is entirely “The Second Date Update” segment with Minecraft parkour clips underneath, which seem to stimulate more attention from the viewers.)
In one episode, “The Second Date Update” features a listener named Jake who took his date, Mia, to a cooking class, hoping to impress her with his culinary skills. However, things quickly went awry when Jake accidentally set off the smoke alarm while trying to flambé a dish. Instead of panicking, he joked, “I guess I’m just trying to add some drama to our dinner!” Mia couldn’t stop laughing, and they both ended up making a mess in the kitchen, with flour and ingredients flying everywhere. However, after the date, Mia didn’t call Jake back right away.
In the “Second Date Update,” Mia explained that while she had a blast, she was initially embarrassed by the chaos and worried that Jake might think she was too clumsy. She also felt that the date was more of a comedy show than a romantic evening. Once they spoke, Mia realized how much fun they had together and appreciated Jake’s sense of humor. They decided to go out again, this time opting for takeout instead of cooking. The episode was funny due to Jake’s clumsiness, and their ability to turn a cooking disaster into a fun memory.
In one “Awkward Tuesday Phone Call,” segment Brooke and Jubal got on air with a guest who doesn’t have the guts to confront the people in their lives. In these segments, people used to ask whether their partners are “royalty” or “catching a cheater,” often bringing out extreme emotions from both parties.
Personally, I love listening to the “Brooke and Jubal in the Morning” show on Tik Tok whenever a video shows up on my feed. Jubal always knows how to continue the conversation on the line to intrigue listeners. The show combines humor, entertainment, and relatable content. Hosts Brooke and Jubal engage with callers, share personal stories, and provide a light-hearted take on everyday situations, making it a fun and engaging morning listen for their audience. Even five years later, the show has humor that keeps up with today’s time and makes me laugh. I wish the partners wouldn’t have split up, and continued making great content.
