This year, the Southern Lehigh High School welcomed Mrs. Autumn Parsons as the new secretary for the guidance office, replacing Mrs. Melody Davis who retired in June. She can be found in the guidance office, behind the front desk.
Mrs. Parsons attended East Stroudsburg University where she earned a degree in political science; she later earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice at Northampton Community College. Mrs. Parsons went on to work as support staff for juvenile probation officers. This fall, she came to Southern Lehigh High School, seeking a change.
“This is a little bit different for me,” Mrs. Parsons said, “but I feel like it’s a good fit.”
With previous experience in the juvenile probation field, Mrs. Parsons understands what can cause stress in students, and seeks to help them in any way she can. Her goal is to help students achieve big things in their futures, while also providing a space for them to talk and feel welcomed.
“I just want kids to feel comfortable coming into guidance,” she said. “I want them to know that it’s a safe space here.”
As a new staff member, Mrs. Parsons finds the high school to be a very welcoming environment, and the workload of her new job to be much more suitable for her lifestyle than her previous occupation.
“Its been rewarding,” she said. “Its a good balance compared to before.”
Outside of school, Mrs. Parsons enjoys tent camping and hiking with her family. Her family loves to snowboard at places like Blue Mountain and Shawnee Mountain. However, she prefers to ski, which she has been doing since she has been in fourth grade.
