The 2025 Winter Formal is just around the corner! Southern Lehigh High School will be hosting a winter dance for all its students, the first since before COVID-19. This year’s theme, “Winter Wonderland,” sets the scene for a night of winter-themed fun. Scheduled for February 28th, this semi-formal dance will transform the school gymnasium into a magical winter evening.
From 7 to 10 pm, the dance will be held in the school gymnasium. To keep the gymnasium clean for students, food and drink will be held in the cafeteria. Although there won’t be a catered meal, there will be various snacks and drinks in the cafeteria for those who need a refresher.
Similar to the Homecoming dance, the dress code will be semi-formal. This includes attire such as short dresses and dress shirts. Because the dance will take place in the gym, heels will not be permitted inside.
This dance will be a night to remember for all grades. No student currently in the high school has attended a Southern Lehigh winter formal before. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a dance during the winter called the Sadie Hawkins dance; however, that took place years before the current seniors entered high school.
To make the dance more accessible, Student Council is also hosting a dress thrifting program for students. People may bring gently used dresses, heels, ties, dress shoes, and accessories from previous events. The thrifting will be held in the boardroom from February 3-7. This event will promote sustainability and give students the opportunity to express themselves without purchasing a new outfit for the dance.
“We are going to hold it a few weeks before so that if you don’t find a dress that you like or that fits you, then you still have time to purchase a dress,” said senior Student Council co-president Ava Masucci.
Students will have the opportunity to attend the dress drive during homeroom, with seniors and juniors going down one day, and the sophomores and freshmen the next.
The Student Council is planning for more decorations for this dance. At Homecoming, there were balloons and streamers of the school’s colors, but for this dance, there will be a lot of winter related decorations, including snowmen and snowflakes.
Creating this new dance was an attempt to boost school spirit in the Southern Lehigh community. It creates more activities for Student Council to organize after Homecoming, along with something for all students to be excited for.
“This is something for us, and everyone, to have more fun,” Masucci said.
The ticket process will be similar to Homecoming and they will be sold the last week of January throughout February. The proceeds, going to Student Council for next year, will guarantee more fun events in the future.
Students are already looking forward to attending the dance.
“I like the addition of the winter dance,” said freshman Jenna Steckel, “because it gives you something to look forward to in the middle of the school year.”
