The Southern Lehigh girls lacrosse team is ready to defend their district title by showing an abundance of skill, determination, and excitement in the early match-ups of this 2025 spring season. This year, the team is focused on rebuilding, considering they lost many talented players – especially those on defense – who have graduated.
“We are definitely adjusting with that pretty big loss by having all our underclassmen step up this year with more and more starting,” said junior Cassidy Clausnitzer, “I’d say we are a pretty young team, but our sophomores especially have really stepped up to fill in those roles.”
Considering the difference in team structure from last year to this year, the stage is set for the younger players to rise to the occasion. They will need to show what they will bring to the team with their unique skill sets and hard work, both in the weight room and on the field.
After winning the PIAA District XI championship the past four consecutive years, the team and coaches are now striving for five. This goal is well within reach for this team.
The Spartans are planning to shoot for state-level competition once again. After coming so close last year, they have their mindset this year.
“Our goal this year is to win the first round of states. That was our goal last year but we lost by two goals in the first round of states which was pretty upsetting,” said Clausnitzer. “I’d say our team last year was definitely one of Southern Lehigh's best teams from what I’ve seen just based on the people on the team and their commitment.”
Junior Lauren Miller kicked off this season with an eye-popping number of goals, thus laying the foundation for a high-scoring season. Recently, she accomplished the 100th goal of her high school career.
Coaches agree that all of these talented players have all earned their playing time on the field. Returning players note that the freshmen have been adjusting well. Many upperclassmen say they see so much potential in them for the remainder of the season and future years to come.
“I feel very happy and grateful to be a freshman on this team because all the upperclassmen are very sweet and encouraging,” said Colley. “I also love how our team is really close and works well together.”
Even though they lost some graduates, this year’s team has found their footing and continues to learn and grow from each other. They have been developing their strength and it shows. Even with difficult games coming up and challenges approaching, the Spartans say they will do whatever it takes to win.
The girls’ lacrosse team will continue on through their season with the goal of reaching district semi-finals, and finals, and if all goes well, the first round of states.
