You may have been humming “Call Me Maybe” all summer long, but if you haven’t picked up the album Night Visions by Imagine Dragons, you’ll have that on repeat soon enough.
Imagine Dragons signed to Interscope Records back in 2011, in the midst of redefining their band. After being picked up by Interscope, they produced an EP named Continued Silence, receiving wonderful reactions. On September 4, 2012, they released their debut album, Night Visions, and were met with rave reviews. The album left old and new fans speechless, and it certainly caught the attention of the music industry.
This year, the VMA’s nominated Imagine Dragons for Best Rock Video. They were up against highly established groups such as Coldplay and The Black Keys; nonetheless, it was a huge compliment. Following their nomination, they also secured a spot in the top 10 on the Billboard’s Top 200, and the television show, “Glee,” covered their song, “It’s Time.” There’s no doubt their music is spreading, and picking up popularity as it does, but what exactly has drawn so many people to them?
“They’re not the bands and singers you hear on the radio every day; they just have something that keeps you intrigued and constantly listening,” sophomore Gabrielle Koehnlein said.
That’s just it. They hold a steady and powerful beat in every song, and it’s the key to captivating fans.
“It’s Time” is one of the most popular songs on the album. I’m not an indie/rock expert, but I can’t listen to this song without it playing in my head all day.
The meaning of the “It’s Time” is up to interpretation, but, despite the value of the words, it leaves me in a better mood. Two lines, “Now don’t you understand, I’m never changing who I am,” showcase the meaning that you should always stay true to yourself. What more could you ask for from a song, let alone an album?
Night Visions is an amazing album, and there is nothing that has me the least bit disappointed. The only thing I’m left with feeling is intrigued as to what is to come. After years of perfecting a unique sound, Imagine Dragons really came through and gave listeners a powerful album.
Sophomore Mark Haverhill said about the album, “Night Visions will easily be remembered as one of the best debut albums this year.”
With such popularity already, this band just might be one we’ll never forget.
