There has been a lot of hype over the newest Disney film, “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” which opened March 8 around the world. So is the newest Oz installment all it’s hyped up to be?
“Oz” has a star-studded cast featuring James Franco as the wizard, Mila Kunis as Theodora, and Michelle Williams as Glinda. The story takes place in 1905 in rural Kansas.
James Franco, a.k.a. Oz, plays a magician hoping to make it big in a travelling circus. When a magic show goes wrong, and he is forced to find an escape in a hot air balloon, he flies straight into a tornado and is transported to the magical land of Oz.
The movie was fantastic. It was everything I expected it to be. The acting was good by everyone all around, and the graphics were top notch.
Personally, I really enjoyed the switch from black and white to color. The color was so vivid and extreme, and it looked really cool. Another favorite part was a surprising plot twist where one of the three witches turns into the Wicked Witch of the West.
“I thought the makeup and costumes were very well done,” senior Bryanna Formanek said. “[A] prequel [to] ‘The Wizard of Oz’ was a great idea because it gave insight on how the great and powerful wizard came to be.”
This is definitely a must see movie. It was very well done and creative. I would recommend it to everyone.
