Say “Hello” to Adele’s New Album, ’25’
Following the ending of her four-year hiatus, Adele has released her long-awaited third album, “25,” on November 20. According to Billboard, it is officially the first album to sell one million copies two weeks in a row.
After suffering four years for a new album to released, the wait was certainly worth it for fans who are overjoyed that they finally have new songs to cry over while eating ice cream.
After releasing her extremely successful second album, “21,” Adele considered quitting the music industry. Instead, she decided to take a break from music to raise her son. During her sabbatical, she went through major writers’ block and feared she had lost her songwriting abilities. After a breakthrough, Adele wrote and recorded the songs in the album “25.” Fans were hit with a surprise when Adele suddenly released her highly popular single, “Hello.”
While continuing the trend of titling her albums after her age, “25” is a record that reflects her life and frame of mind as an adult. Common themes of the lyrics include nostalgia and regret. Adele also successfully attempted to modernize her music by adding the use of electronic elements and drums.
In contrast to her previous albums which focused on a woman attempting to recover from heartbreak after heartbreak, the songs on “25” focus on a woman reflecting on her past mistakes, shown in titles such as “Million Years Ago.”
Adele’s theme of nostalgia is in songs like “When We Were Young,” which features powerful, emotional lyrics: “You still look like a movie, you still sound like a song, my God this reminds me, of when we were young.”
Adele’s powerful voice is absolutely captivating. She has the power to turn the saddest of words into the most beautiful, romantic melodies.
This album truly reflects how Adele has grown as a person. Now, she has finally found love and has a happy family. In her song, “Sweetest Devotion,” the closing song in the album, the lyrics, “There is something about the way that you love me that finally feels like home,” show how she has has learned from her past heartbreaks, and finally found love.
Adele has proved to us with her new album that with whatever type of music she releases, it will shock the world with her incredible vocals and magnificently written songs.
