LEGO Fortnite was among several other limited-time game modes released by Fortnite on December 7, 2023. The collaboration was quickly enjoyed by many, and even quicker to be quit by nearly every player. This begs the question: why did everyone leave the game so fast?
LEGO Fortnite is described as the “ultimate survival crafting adventure” where players can collect resources, battle creatures, and power up their imagination to construct the ultimate LEGO brick-built base in a huge survival world.
The game also includes a sandbox mode where you can build whatever you’d like with none of the cost of resources. This gives players the ability to experiment with all the mechanics and features the game has to offer.
LEGO Fortnite quickly became very popular, as many big influencers played and shared their experiences with their fans. It was commonly compared to other survival games like Minecraft. So much so that, when it was originally released, many headlines read along the lines of “Minecraft has competition.”
This was before the players began discovering the flaws of the underdeveloped game. It lacks a plot and a storyline, and with no endpoint in sight, naturally, people will tend to lose interest. When compared to other games with defined endpoints like defeating the Ender Dragon, players get bored and begin to quit.
The game’s release was rushed, and from the player point-of-view, it came off as a trial or test run. It lacked the essentials needed to be a completed game.
I played the game and enjoyed it for a while. It allows players the opportunity to play solo or with up to seven of their friends. I enjoy playing games that are collaborative over single-player games, but I began to lose interest when I was the only one logging on to our world.
I would compare LEGO Fortnite to the one-week Minecraft sessions that you log back on to play with your friends every once in a while. But, until the game releases real updates and expands, I think it is time to put down the controller.
