Every Mile Matters: Walk, Run, and Bike for a Cause
For years now, the application “Charity Miles” has been growing in popularity. Charity Miles allows you to raise money for the charity of your choice simply by walking, running, or biking. Some of the charities you could donate to are Feeding America, ASPCA, Habitat for Humanity, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
“I think it’s very nice that people are going to give money to organizations just for running or walking and that the app’s free and you don’t have to pay for it,” sophomore Katerina Sawickij said.
Even if you’re not a big walking, running, or biking person, Charity Miles motivates you to exercise. For every mile you walk or run you raise 25 cents, and for every mile you bike you raise 10 cents. You can also skip, skate, hop, or roll, but you need to pick a biking, walking, or running activity that best fits your exercise.
“I would totally use it,” physical education teacher Mr. Matthew Hummel said. “I love physical fitness and if I get to help people in need while exercising, that would be amazing.”
All you have to do is turn on the app, pick a charity, and press start. Charity Miles uses a GPS to track your distance as you run, walk, or bike. Once you’ve completed your exercise, you accept the sponsorship, and Charity Miles will send a note confirming the amount of money earned. With this app, “Every Mile Matters.”
You can download Charity Miles on both iPhones and Androids for free; all you have to do is press “download.” If you like the app, feel free to follow Charity Miles on Twitter @CharityMiles, or check out their Facebook page.
