Elena Jane “Ellie” Goulding is an English singer-songwriter who kicked off her career in 2009 when she sang for Polydor Records. From there she released an Extended Play (EP) music recording called “Introduction to Ellie Goulding.”
Goulding won the BBC Sound of 2010, a poll of music critics who find the best new up-and-coming artists, joining other musicians such as Adele and 50 Cent who have also received this award. Her debut album “Lights” sold 850,000 copies in the UK. She continued to become very popular there when her cover of Elton John’s “Your Song” reached number two on the UK charts. As Goulding gained fans, she was asked to perform at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding.
It was not until March 2011 that “Lights” was released in the US. After its release, it became number one on the Billboard Pop Song chart, number on the Billboard On-Demand chart and number two on the Billboard Hot 100. After its 33rd week on the charts, one of the longest climbs ever, the single was certified triple platinum.
This past October, Goulding released her second album “Halcyon” and received many positive reviews. Her song “Anything Could Happen,” the lead single on the album, has been a regular on the radio.
This November, Goulding re-released “Lights” as “Bright Lights,” adding six new tracks to the album. “Your Song” is an addition to the re-released album, and now is her highest-charting single to date.
If you are interested in seeing Goulding live in person, she will be at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia in January 2013 as part of her current tour.
