Looking for a gift to make for someone special? Or maybe you’re just bored at home and want to find something to do. Making decorations for your room is a perfect way to occupy yourself for a few hours, while getting something done at the same time. A votive candle holder is a quick and easy project that you can make with items already found in your home.
Supplies:
-Glass jar (any type and size, as long as it has a smooth surface)
-magazines, newspaper, and tissue paper
-scissors
-mod podge (or other glue type substance)
-paint brush
-votive candle or battery-operated candle (can be purchased at the craft store)
Step One:
Place newspaper on your workspace, so you don’t get glue anywhere.
Step Two:
Flip through magazines, and use the scissors to cut out pieces that you would like to cover your jar with. They can be any shape and size. You can cut out some pieces of tissue paper as well so you have light shining through your jar.
Step Three:
Dip the paintbrush in the mod podge (or other glue substance), and wipe the excess on the side of the container. Choose a spot on the jar where you want to start, and paint the glue on. Make sure you only cover a small area at a time, so the mod podge doesn’t dry out.
Step Four:
Take a magazine strip and cover one side with mod podge. Then attach it to the part of the jar that already has glue on it. Smooth out the magazine strip to make sure there are no air bubbles, and then add another coat of mod podge on top.
Repeat steps three and four until your jar is covered, and then wait for it to dry. Place a votive candle or battery-operated candle inside the jar, and watch it light up.
These jars are great for gifts, room decorations, or just for fun. Enjoy!
