As the summer approaches, it’s time to think up some fun projects to take up my time. Last summer, I went thrift-shopping with a friend, and we found incredible old suitcases. We decided to buy them (five dollars!) and make up our own DIY project.
Supplies:
Old suitcase (can get this cheap at a thrift store, flea market, or yard sale)
Magazines/newspaper
Paintbrush
Mod Podge
Step one:
Rip small to medium pieces of magazine that you want to cover your suitcase with.
Step two:
Pick a spot on the suitcase where you want to start working and cover that small area with Mod Podge.
Step three:
Cover one side of a magazine strip in Mod Podge and stick it to the suitcase where you previously applied Mod Podge. Smooth it down so there are no air bubbles and then add another layer of Mod Podge on top.
Repeat steps two and three until the entire side of the suitcase is covered and let it dry for a few hours. Once that side is dry, repeat the same steps to cover the other side.
These types of suitcases aren’t exactly ideal for traveling anymore, but can be used for small trips such as weekend beach trips. This way you know that the only time you’ll have to carry the suitcase is from your car to the hotel room.
If you don’t intend to use your suitcase for traveling, a great alternative is to use it as a storage space. I recently rearranged my room, and found that I no longer had enough space in my bookcase for all of the books I had. I decided to use this new DIY suitcase as the perfect storage space for my overflowing books!
