Teachers are preparing to say farewell to the current seniors who graduate on June 7, 2013, but what exactly will our teachers miss about them?
English teacher Mrs. Kelly Howsare says she will miss their diligence, motivation, intelligence, humor, kindness, and courtesy. On the other hand, she won’t miss their apathy, irresponsibility, and their lack of discipline. “God love ‘em,” she said.
Mrs. Howsare quoted Charles Dickens for a word of wisdom to the seniors.
“There is a wisdom of the head, and… a wisdom of the heart,” she said, “You need a balance of learning and love.”
Science teacher Mr. Greg Collins said that the unique thing about this class is that they will be the only class ever to graduate in the year A.D. 2013.
“I will miss many individuals, but as a group, I will miss their creativity and their joy for having fun,” Mr. Collins said. “I won’t miss their unbridled passion for their cell phone games.”
While math teacher Ms. Justina Viola won’t miss the “whining about how life is unfair,” she said she will miss the talent the seniors have displayed in the school plays. She also noted that the they are go-getters who excel, but are modest about their accomplishments.
Family and Consumer Science teacher Mrs. Linda Gross also is sad to see the class go.
“I came in contact with so many seniors who are caring and giving human beings,” Mrs. Gross said, “and I will miss them very much!”
Specifically, Mrs. Gross explained how she loved the tailgating at sporting events that the seniors planned. “It showed great school spirit and care for one another!”
Although the seniors may be leaving Southern Lehigh this year, they have many years ahead of them.
“Learning doesn’t stop after the high school or college diploma,” Mrs Gross said. “If you stop learning, you stop living life to the fullest.”
