It’s normal for sports team to argue and disagree, but it’s rare when it’s within your own school. Mid-October, a feud broke out between Southern Lehigh’s own soccer and baseball teams.
“I believe the racial slurs from a few select baseball team members started the whole thing,” senior soccer captain Dan Marant said.
“The soccer team just began to pick on one of our sophomore players for something he said. It was actually incredibly rude and harsh,” an anonymous baseball player said.
Although the feud seems to have started with a few snide comments, it broke loose over Twitter. Numerous boys on both teams have access to a Twitter account and, therefore, tweets broke loose one fateful night. No one can recall exactly which tweet started the “Twitter fight” but it led to nearly three hours of team members, and students not even involved with either sport, attacking the opposing sport.
“It was entertaining and pretty hilarious to see what some people had to say about one another,” senior Austin Rivera said.
Many students began to join in on the action by stating which team they were more for. This only fueled the fight and kept it going into the late hours.
The following day, numerous students were buzzing about certain tweets and teams.
“I thought it was ridiculously stupid. Every sport has their own difficulties. You can’t say one sport is better than the other because each is different in their own ways,” junior Jake Fizer said.
A month has passed since the “twitter dispute” but some side comments are still tossed around here and there. Both teams still hold a grudge for the things that were said about one another, but the hate is slowly dying away.
