The winners of the AFC and NFC championship games, the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers, battled it out in Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans on February 3 after making it through the playoffs. The Ravens proved themselves the better team and left triumphant, beating the 49ers in a close game 34-31.
While all Super Bowls are special, this one had a very unique factor. John and Jim Harbaugh, who coach the Ravens and the 49ers respectively, are the first set of brothers to coach against each other in a Super Bowl. This is the second time the brothers have coached against each other, and now John has won both times, the first time being a 16-6 victory last Thanksgiving.
Teachers and students at Southern Lehigh had mixed opinions about what did they wanted to happen in this major U.S. event.
“I don’t like the 49ers because I don’t like their colors, and I like Baltimore and Ray Lewis a lot,” junior Rachael Christman said.
Mr. Richard Colelli, a passionate Steelers fan, had other reasons for picking the team he wanted to win.
“I want[ed] the Baltimore Ravens to win because they’re in the same division as the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Mr. Colelli said. “I [didn’t] want San Francisco to win because a win would give them as many Super Bowl Championships as the Steelers.”
And, of course, some of us are only in it for the commercials.
“I enjoyed the Taco Bell commercial with the old people because that was the only one that made me laugh,” junior Lauren Trumbull said.
