Athletics remain an important aspect of life for many Southern Lehigh High School students, Senior Candace Ly takes an interesting stance on the typical after school activity by participating in Taekwondo. We caught up with her to find out more about the sport and her involvement in it.
SLSpotlight: When did you start Taekwondo?
Ly: When I was eight.
SLSpotlight: Where do you go to practice?
Ly: Kim’s Black Belt Academy in Bethlehem.
SLSpotlight: Do you have you any awards? If so, which ones?
Ly: I’ve won two grand champions at tournaments on the East Coast, and I’m a second degree black belt.
SLSpotlight: What is the best and worst thing about Taekwondo?
Ly: The best thing is when you can kick your best friend in the head and not get in trouble for it. The worst is getting kicked in the head a lot.
SLSpotlight: When did you get your black belt?
Ly: About four years ago.
SLSpotlight: Do you plan to continue Taekwondo after high school?
Ly: I plan on joining my college’s Taekwondo team.
