The Women of Winter: Successful Season for Girls Basketball
The Southern Lehigh girls basketball team is having an incredible season, winning the Colonial League championship game over Palisades 47-36, their first Colonial League girls’ basketball title since 2013. At the time of publication, the Spartans are entering the District XI 3A finals, after defeating Lehighton and Central Catholic, and will move on to states.
“It felt like a huge accomplishment!” senior Brianna Mobley said. “We’ve been working really hard and we really wanted to come out on top.”
Southern Lehigh has a young and talented team. Key players include senior Sydney Cyr, and her sister junior Jenna Cyr, senior Brianna Mobley and her sister sophomore Amanda Mobley, junior Michaela Miller, sophomore Avery Bennett, and freshmen Olivia Snyder and Ellie Cassel. Currently Snyder leads the team in scoring with 322 points.
“We have a lot of years to work with each other,” Snyder said. “We have known each other for many years. We work together very well and fortunately have a variety of positions and roles to fill.”
The girls basketball head coach, Mr. Matt Cooper, hopes his team will get better every time they walk on the court together.
“We are working to win…districts,” Mr. Cooper said. “We also hope to go far into the states.”
